For the 4th of July, NYX Cosmetics offered all of their products at 40% off. I was more than happy to take advantage of this deal. Ulta had a similar NYX sale during the week of Independence Day, but palettes were excluded from that sale. This was really the only reason I decided to order from the NYX website. Both were offering free shipping with a $25 order.
Shipping from NYX was incredibly slow and it took nearly 2 weeks to receive my order. I don’t know if this is the usual or they were just inundated because of the sale.
Once my order came, I was glad I chose to order from NYX. Inside the shipping box, my products had been placed in this lace bag, which I thought was a really nice touch. I love the bag and can’t wait to repurpose it.
Bohemian Chic – Nude Matte Palette ♥
I think the packaging on this palette is really pretty. It’s a shiny, black plastic, but it feels very durable. (Ignore my reflection!) The only drawback is that it quickly gets covered with fingerprints, which annoys me. I find myself constantly wanting to wipe it clean. Maybe I only feel that way because it’s new.
The top portion of the palette contains 18 nude matte shades. Almost all of the nude shadows I own are shimmery, so I’m really excited to have a palette full of mattes to work with. The mirror is the same size as the palette, which is about the size of my hand; you could potentially use it to apply makeup, if needed.
The bottom portion contains 2 blushes and 6 more matte shadow shades. There are also 2 sponge applicators, though I won’t use those. I haven’t actually used this palette yet, but swatching some of the shadows, they appear to be smooth and buttery. Expect a full review with swatches after I’ve had some time to try it out.
Matte Bronzer in Light ♥
Being very pale, bronzer isn’t something I’ve used a lot of. I’ve been using e.l.f.’s Baked Bronzer in St. Lucia for the past few months, but it contains a lot of shimmer. This bronzer is very smooth and the color seems like a good match for my skin tone.
HD Studio Finishing Powder ♥
I’ve only used traditional translucent powders, so I’m excited to try this. I’m hoping it’ll do a better job at setting my makeup, especially in my undereye area. I have a lot of darkness under my eyes, so it’s important that I’m able to set my concealer so it will last the entire day.
Control Freak Eyebrow Gel ♥
My eyebrows are wild. I use a wax to fill them in, but sometimes even that isn’t enough to keep them in control. After emilynoel83 from Beauty Broadcast said that this stuff “holds like a mother,” I knew I had to purchase it.
Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul, Antwerp, and San Paulo ♥
Of course, I couldn’t place an order without including some lip products. Since I had already received a butter gloss in my Ipsy bag, I decided to go with the soft matte lip creams. I had issues choosing a color, however, so I ended up with three! These feel very velvety when first applied, then dry quickly to a beautiful matte finish. I’ve only worn the darkest color, San Paulo, but it had some definite staying power! It even stained my arm when I was doing swatches. I need to wear these a few more times before I do a full review, but they didn’t seem to be drying like most matte lip products.
Macaron Lippies in Violet and Blue Velvet ♥
These are scary! I can’t imagine wearing them on their own, but I wanted to give them a try. I recently purchased the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Coy, which is also a violet shade. I’ve been wearing that, so I think I can probably make the Violet one work. Not so sure about the Blue Velvet, but I wanted to choose a color that was more non-traditional than the purple.
Slim Lip Pencil in Nectar ♥ & Color Lip Balm in Merci
Lip Pencil Retail: $3.50
I can no longer find the color balms online, so it seems that they’ve been phased out in favor of the Butter lip balms. I haven’t used this yet, but am kind of hesitant. If I love it, they are no longer available, unless I resort to ebay. Hopefully the butter balms are similar, in case this turns out to be the most amazing lip balm I’ve ever used.
I had to double-check my order sheet when it arrived because I didn’t recall ordering a lip pencil. Indeed, I did not. It was nice of NYX to throw in this little extra. It’s just a standard lip pencil, but the color seems neutral enough that I’ll be able to use it.
Overall, I’m really happy with my first purchases from NYX and can’t wait to start working some of these items into my day-to-day routine.
