Ipsy: August 2014

ipsy: august 2014

This month, Ipsy allowed subscribers to have an early look at glam rooms by doing a number of tasks, including posting to facebook and subscribing to several stylist youtube channels. I begrudgingly did those tasks, but was quick to unsubscribe to the youtube channels. Though it was nice to get a look at my items sooner, I think simply posting to facebook should have been enough to grant early access. If this opportunity arises again, I doubt I will take it.

About Ipsy:

Ipsy is a monthly subscription service. Subscribers pay $10 per month for a beauty bag filled with 4-5 products, a mix of samples and full-size items. If you would like to subscribe using my affiliate link, click here. Thanks!

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara
0.1 oz., Estimated value: $5.50 || Full size: 0.4 oz., $22

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

It seems like I get a mascara every month. I was hoping to try this, so I’m not complaining too much. I haven’t tried the formula yet, but I’m really excited that it has a regular brush, not the rubber bristles, which I detest. I also actually prefer sample sizes of mascara because I can use them up before they dry out.

GlamGlow YouthMud TingleExfoliate Treatment
0.5 oz., Estimated value: $20.70 || Full size: 1.7 oz., $69

GlamGlow YouthMud TingleExfoliate Treatment

I’m not sure what the rationale is, but I always find myself hoarding GlamGlow samples. I have several of the eye treatments saved and I’m sure this will go into that pile as well. I’ve been told numerous times how great this stuff is, so I’m not sure why I want to keep it instead of use it. I think I’m probably just afraid to fall in love with things I find to be way too expensive.

Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Orange Ginger Lip Conditioner
0.15 oz. || Estimated value: $5.50

Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Orange Ginger Lip Conditioner

Not exactly an exciting addition to my bag, but this is something I will definitely use. I’m a lip balm junkie. I keep them in my purse, on my desk, in my car…basically anywhere I might spend a significant amount of time. This one smells really good as well, which is always a plus.

Manna Kadar Sheer Glo Shimmer Lotion
0.27 oz., Estimated value: $7.83 || Full size: 1 oz., $29

Manna Kadar Sheer Glo Shimmer Lotion

This product was a complete disappointment. I couldn’t tell that it actually did anything. Maybe if I applied big glops of it, but when you sheer it out, there’s no effect. No shimmer. No highlight. No glitter. #fail

Lord & Berry Black Silk Kohl Liner
0.02 oz., Estimated value: $.21 || Full size: 1.4 oz., $15

Lord & Berry Black Silk Kohl Liner

This is the smallest eyeliner I’ve ever seen. It’s exactly the size of my pinkie finger. I don’t need more black eyeliner, so I’ll save this to throw in as an extra when I do swaps.

*Extra* ‘Tini Beauty Lipstick – Plum Wine
0.12 oz. || Estimated value: $18

Tini Beauty Lipstick - Plum Wine

I’ve been hanging onto my points for months, hoping for something exciting, but Ipsy’s rewards are not exciting in the least. I finally gave up and decided to redeem for this lipstick. It’s a nice color and will be great for fall.

Total value: $39.74 (plus $18 for the extra)

I’ve become less and less excited about Ipsy in the past few months. I think it might be time to cancel.

What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month?

  • I am not a makeup person seeing how is I don’t wear any but I love the little bags that comes with each month. They are always so dang cute.

    • The bags are such a great little extra. I always use them to keep my purse a little more organized.

  • I would love to subscribe to this! I love makeup and love trying new things! Samples are always the best too!

    • It’s only $10 a month, which is super affordable, especially when you consider what you get. 🙂

  • Hmmm…your extra item made the bag worth it, imo! Some of the other products don’t seem that exciting this month. Hopefully you get a better bag in September!

    • The extra was the saving grace of this bag. Thankfully, the product choices for September look much better!
