If you asked me two years ago what my favorite food was, I would have likely said bread. I used to be one of those people that couldn’t have a meal without some sort of bread. I bought small packages of dinner rolls to eat as snacks, thought I couldn’t survive the morning without a bagel, and ate more sandwiches than was likely healthy. All that, of course, was before I discovered that I have a severe sensitivity to gluten and needed to go gluten free.
In the past two years, I’ve tried a lot of different breads from a lot of different companies. In nearly every instance, they simply don’t compare to the “real” thing. I want breads that are soft and delicious, not a bunch of dense imitations that are bland and taste like cardboard. Last Thanksgiving, I drove nearly two hours to purchase gluten free dinner rolls, then was disappointed when they were dry and hard.
Thankfully, BFree Foods has a wonderful like to breads that are wheat and gluten free, but also incredibly tasty.
The BFree line includes wraps, buns, bread, bagels, and rolls. All of the products are gluten free, but also free of wheat, dairy, egg, nut, and soy. They are low in fat and high in fiber, yet taste great.
I was able to try the sandwich bread, dinner rolls, and bagels. I loved them all! They were definitely the closest to wheat bread I’d tasted since going gluten free. The sandwich bread was firm, yet soft and enjoyable. I packed a sandwich in my lunch and it held up really well. I also toasted it and ate it with jelly and butter. Perfect!
The rolls were generously sized. I ate several of them as a side to my dinner. I had one left that had been in my refrigerator for a few days and was worried about spoilage, so I sliced it in half and used it as a hamburger bun. It worked great. I’ve also stashed an extra bag of the rolls in the freezer for Thanksgiving. No driving two hours to buy rolls that taste like cardboard!
The bagels were like heaven. I hadn’t had a bagel in more than two years, so I felt like I was cheating. The bagel toasted well, soaked up my butter, and was delicious. I will definitely be purchasing more of these in the future.
